Flying Star Feng Shui for 2020
A Flying star chart shifts each year and there is usually a mix of positive and negative chi to either activate or remedy. In Period 8 the negative stars are 2, 3, 5, and 7. Proper placement of cures, keeping the rooms dark as in curtains and blinds drawn, undisturbed by renovations or loud noises is imperative to your safety and wellbeing. Using an alternative bedroom or main entrance can be advantageous.
The positive stars need light, human movement, and when activated can produce good fortune. These are the 1, 4, 6, 8, and future wealth star 9. Each of these Flying Stars has an element assigned to it so depending on where in the Ba-Gua it visits this year can require mitigating or other adjustments to ensure the proper treatment.
There are 3 “Guests” who arrive each year and do not like to be offended, challenged or disrespected.
Sui Po is the Year Breaker in the South (172.5 – 187.5)
Just like with the other afflictions, you DO NOT want to disturb this area of your home or property. Immediate health issues will result. Keep this area quiet.
CURE: Place a Brass Pagoda in a prominent area of this room to appease the Sui Po.
Three Killings in the South (142.5 – 217.5 degrees on the compass)
Zodiac Animals Snake, Horse, and Sheep are most afflicted.
DO NOT renovate, dig, break ground (putting plants in small holes is okay), make huge sound, or slam the door from 2/3/2020 – 2/4/2021. If you have to do any repairs or if there are street repairs or neighbor repairs happening then hang a 6 rod hollow wind chime to dispel the chi, hang a string of 6 coins on the wall or doorknob, and place a salt water cure to absorb the toxic energy. Ask a Feng Shui specialist like Lydia Nitya Griffith to assist in selecting the correct date and time for the construction to take place.
DO NOT sit with your back to the South but rather face the South.
Tai Sui or the Grand Duke of Jupiter in the North (352.5 – 7.5)
Just like with the Three Killings, DO NOT disturb this area inside or outside of your home or office. No digging, slamming doors, banging or renovating. Immediate health problems are likely to ensue if the chi here is rattled. Make sure you face the Grand Duke, never put your back to him. Consider this when you are driving or traveling this year – AVOID traveling/ driving/ moving in a Northern direction.
CURE: Place Pi Yao Beasties into this North direction to appease the Grand Duke
Hang a Picture of the Grand Duke on the North wall is another option.
If you have an office here, place 3 Immortals along the North wall to give you support and protection.
#1 White Star – North East
This Noble Star is often associated with success and reputation. Having a front door here in 2020 ushers in good news and wonderful travel opportunities. Dogs and Pigs benefit the most from having an office, bedroom or front entrance in this sector. The Earthy nature of the NE conflicts with the Watery 1 Star so mitigating with Metal is needed to gain the most benefit.
CURES to Activate:
- Keep this are active with human activity, open doors, windows and blinds
- A Blue Door and Black Doormat is ideal – bring in those colors of Blue, Black or Gray
- On a table place a single Gold Ingot on a Blue plate or piece of fabric
- A Dragon Headed Turtle on the desk if this is your office brings good fortune and support from employers. Make sure this little statue is not facing you.
- A Gold Buddha is another way to activate this happy energy
- Focus on colors of White, Silver, Gold, and Copper – Metal accents and furnishings with pops of BLUE
- AVOID Earth tones and Fire especially Purple, Red, Yellow, Brown, Tan, Fuchsia, Orange, Violet and Rose, Green tones and Wood.
#2 Yellow Star – South
The 2 Star is known as the Sickness Star. The 2 is an Earth energy and with the South being Fire, this negative chi is being fed enough to wreak havoc on health. A bedroom, office, or entrance in the South needs not only a remedy but to be avoided. Use a different entrance, sleep elsewhere, work in an alternative room. Afflictions of the digestive system, bloating, food poisoning, stomach ailments in general are the most common effect of this stars influence.
Rooster, Rabbit, Rat, and Horse people, pregnant women and older women are the ones more greatly impacted here.
CURES to Dispel:
- If a Bedroom: Place a Brass Wu Lou by the bedside for good health and a Salt Water Cure all to absorb the toxicity
- If a Front Door: Place 2 Gold Fu Dogs on either side of the front stoop along with a Ba-Gua mirror on the front door to deflect the negative chi – Use an alternate entrance if at all possible
- Run a string of 6 coins lengthwise on the Southern wall
- A Brass Kuan Yin bell, statue or chime is also an effective cure
- Close curtains and doors to this room
- Do Not burn lights for long periods of time or use Fire in any way (if this is a Kitchen put cookie sheets over the burners when not in use)
- Place a round Metal bowl (a singing bowl, dog bowl, etc.)
- Do Not Bang, Dig, Renovate or in any way rattle the chi in the Southern part of your home or office – this includes placement of the TV, sound system, stove, furnace, or machinery
- Focus on accent colors of White, Silver, Gold, and Copper – Metal accents and furnishings to weaken the Earthy 2
- AVOID Earth tones and Fire especially Purple, Red, Yellow, Brown, Tan, Fuchsia, Orange, Violet and Rose
#3 Green Star – North
The 3 Star is most unfortunate and should be avoided in a bedroom as affliction of the liver, legs and arms is more likely. Ox and Tigers are more directly impacted. When aggravated this energy causes financial loss, arguments, disharmony, and defamation.
CURES to Depress:
- A RED Happy Hotei statue is the ideal cure
- Red doormat, and other pops of Red weaken this Star
- Focus on colors of Fire like Red, Fuchsia, Pink, Orange, Violet, Rose and actual Fire with lush plants
- AVOID Green, Blue, Turquoise, Eggplant, Black, Indigo, Periwinkle, Lavender, , Earth tones Yellow, Brown, Tan, Metal, White, Silver, Gold
#4 Green Star – South West
The 4 Star is represented by the element of strong Wood and the South West is Earth which creates a conflict. To mitigate this we look for the element between these two and we find Fire. The 4 Star is known for romance, relationships, fertility, travel, creativity, and good studies. Horses will be the Zodiac Animal most influenced by this positive chi.
CURES to Activate:
- Activate the Peach Blossom of Romance by placing a Love Altar in this room of your home which is the relationship sector of the Ba-Gua. This feels like a prime year for romance, marriage, and partnerships. Arrange 2 red candles, a favorite picture of you and your love or a couple you greatly admire (if you are looking for a relationship), a pair of birds, and in the South Western window a pair of crystal hearts
- If this is a main door of your home or an office expect to do more traveling this year
- 4 stalks of Lucky Bamboo in a RED vase
- Couples with a bedroom in the South West will enjoy a deeper love connection and greater chances for getting pregnant – For fertility put a Blue Kwan Yin and/or a dish of unshelled peanuts by your bedside
- Students will do well to study in the SW
- If this is a front door keep it clean and tidy, inside and out
- Focus on colors of Fire like Fuchsia, Pink, Orange, Violet, Rose and actual Fire from a fireplace, incense or candles, lush plants, keep Earth tones neutral like tan, lemon, cream

#5 Yellow Star – East
The 5 Star is volatile, unpredictable and truly dangerous. Tragedy, accidents, illness, lawsuits, bankruptcy, and overall misfortune. DO NOT disturb this area of your home, office, or yard with drilling, renovations, digging, or repairs. The East is the most problematic side of your home or office with one helpful aspect, the East is Wood which controls and drains the impact to some degree. The best method to reduce the negativity is METAL cures with Water/ Wood decor. Rat and Dragon people will be the most affected and should avoid this area of their home and office.
CURES to Dispel:

#6 Star – South East
This positive energy brings power, status, gains from hard work. So this is a great location for an office but not so much for a bedroom as loneliness, depression, and isolation could result.
CURES to Activate:
- A money tree with a Gold Dragon placed on the left of a desk for success
- If a front door, hang a string of 6 Chinese Coins
- Mitigate the Clash of Metal and Wood with décor that is Blue in color
- Focus on colors of Blues with healthy live plants
- AVOID Earth tones and Fire especially Purple, Red, Yellow, Brown, Tan, Fuchsia, Orange, Violet and Rose, White, Gray, and Black
#7 Red Star – Center
This is the Fighting Star and is emotional, volatile, and potentially violent. Concern for surgery and injury with sharp objects is also more likely. People born on the Day or Year of the Rabbit are most at risk. The Earthy nature of the Center feeds this so we want to drain it with Metal and key cures.
CURES to Depress:
- Blue Rhino or Elephant for harmony and to assuage arguments
- Metal statuary, bowls, etc.
- Being in the Center this is often a hallway or wall that is prominent in a home – I would ensure there are no family photos here and the images are messages of peace, harmony, and with black or metal frames, black and white photographs, blue imagery but nothing sharp or suggestive of weaponry
- Focus on accents of Blue, Metal as in white, gray and Metal objects, black and white photography, black or metal frames
- AVOID Water, plants, Wood, the color Green Fire, Red, Fuchsia, Orange, Violet and Rose, candles, glass, crystals, Earth colors like yellow, brown, rust, peach, tan, and cream
#8 White Earth Star – North West
Elementally this is an Earth star visiting the Metal NW which is harmonious as Earth produces Metal, so this is putting money into action. Dragon and Snake people will benefit most from this auspicious energy. Happiness, fame, and wealth are the positive traits of the 8 Star we want to invigorate.
CURES to Activate:
- Open doors, windows, blinds, use this room regularly, keep the chi active
- 8 YELLOW Crystal Balls arranged in a square is a terrific cure
- Put 8 silk YELLOW flowers in an Earthen or Metal vase on a prominent table
- AVOID Blue and Green colors, Water and Wood, and minimal if any Fire, Red, Fuchsia, Orange, Violet and Rose
- Focus on Metal as in white, gray, Earth colors like yellow, brown, rust, peach, tan, cream and chamois. Metal and Earth materials like glass, crystals, pottery, statuary, etc.
#9 Purple Star – West
The 9 Star is a Fire energy of future good fortune. The West as a Metal energy is in conflict so we need to mitigate with Earth here. This has great potential for bringing in happy celebrations, good news, promotions, and plans becoming successful.
CURES to Activate:
- Keep this room active, use this regularly if it is your front door. Open windows and blinds to keep the chi bright and active.
- Place 9 silk Yellow Flowers in an Earthen Vase on a prominent table
- This is a great place to put a vision board, images of things you want to manifest
- Focus on Earthy colors tan, cream, brown, rust, terracotta, peach, baby pink, pale yellow with some Fire like candles, rocks, pottery, or glass
- AVOID Blue, Turquoise, Green, Metal, White, Silver, Gold, Gray and Black
